Discover South Tyrol's HotSpots

Here are some of the top hotspots that South Tyrol has to offer
SECEDA/PUEZ-GEISLER - VAL GARDENA

On the sunny side of Val Gardena lies “Seceda” and is part of the Natural Park “Puez-Odle” UNESCO World Natural Heritage Dolomites. The Seceda rises to 2,500 meters and is the highest viewpoint in Val Gardena. Breathtaking landscapes and a wide view of the skyline of the Dolomites await you here.

BRAIES LAKE

The Braies Lake is considered the pearl of the Dolomite lakes and is located in the nature park “Fannes-Sennes-Braies”. In a rocky basin and overlooked by the majestic Seekofel, it is considered one of the most beautiful lakes of the Dolomites in South Tyrol. In just an hour and a half of easy hiking you will circle the lake. Boats can also be rented for a round on the lake.

THREE PEAKS

Probably the most exciting alpine experience in the Dolomites: The Three Peaks Nature Park. Together with the other Dolomite peaks, the 3 Peaks were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. The 3 Peaks are the landmark of the Dolomites as well as the natural highlight in the Dolomite region. The 3 Peaks in Val Pusteria are highly recommended for easy hikes or also for experienced alpinists.

The Church Tower in the Lake

In 1950, during the damming of the lake, the village of Graun and a large part of the village of Reschen were submerged in the flood waters of the reservoir. Houses and fertile cultural soil were destroyed and flooded. Today, only the church tower jutting out of Lake Reschen bears witness to the sunken village of Alt-Graun. Lake Reschen is very popular with water sports enthusiasts and is the largest lake in South Tyrol with a length of six kilometers.

Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

The gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle cover an area of 12 hectares. In over 80 garden landscapes, a wide variety of plants from all over the world bloom and flourish. Ideal excursion destination for a visit to the city of Merano in the Burgraviate.

Ötzi "The Iceman"

Ötzi “The Iceman” is one of the oldest mummies in the world and is estimated to be over 5,000 years old. Together with his complete clothing and belongings, the shepherd was preserved in the ice and found in 1991 by German mountaineers at the Hauslabjoch. Nothing on the body of the glacier mummy has been altered by a burial rite or other human intervention – this is very rarely the case with mummies and makes the man from Similaun special. Ötzi is kept in the Bolzano Archaeological Museum and can be visited there.

LAKE CAREZZA

The 130 m wide and 300 m long lake is fed by underground springs of the Latemar group. In spring the water level reaches its highest level with 22 m depth. In summer the lake is filled by the melting snow and in October the water level is at its lowest with about 6 m. A circular hike takes you around the Karer Lake in 20 minutes. In winter the “fairy tale lake of the Dolomites” is then frozen and covered with snow.

STERZING - ALPINE TOWN WITH CHARM

Stroll between through the picturesque old town with its characteristic “bay windows” and stroll through the shopping streets, with many stores, restaurants and bars. In summer you can enjoy a breathtaking mountain panorama and an extensive network of hiking trails. The Rosskopf is only a few minutes walk from the center of Sterzing, so culture, culinary and sporting activities can be perfectly combined.
